Samsung kickstarted this week in tech with the India launch of its Galaxy J6, Galaxy J8, Galaxy A6, and Galaxy A6+ smartphones. The Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 are affordable handsets with plastic unibody design, Super AMOLED screens, and 18.5:9 displays, while the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+ sport metal unibody designs, along with Super AMOLED screens and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. As for the prices in India, Galaxy A6+ is the most expensive of the lot at Rs. 25,990, followed by the Galaxy A6 at Rs. 21,990. A group of iOS developers has called on Apple to commit to allowing free trials for all apps in the App Store by July, while adding that it would eventually demand a “reasonable revenue cut”. Apple currently receives a 30 percent cut of what revenue developers earn from the App Store. The group, which calls themselves “The Developers Union”, detailed their demands in an open letter to the tech giant on Friday, MacRumors reported. “We believe that people who create great software should be able to make a living doing it. So we created The Developers Union to advocate for sustainability in the App Store,” the letter read. “Today, we are asking Apple to commit to allowing free trials for all apps in the App Stores by the tenth anniversary of the App Store this July. After that, we’ll start advocating for a more reasonable revenue cut and other community-driven, developer-friendly changes,” it said. At the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 gameplay reveal, it was announced that the game will indeed have a battle royale mode. Called Blackout, it sports the biggest map in Call of Duty history. Developer Treyarch stated you will be able to play fan favourite characters from the Black Ops universe through varied locales. Dubbed the PUBG 0.5.0 patch, it brings the Miramar map, improved performance, easier options to play with your friends (by using six digit codes to pair up with those near you), and a host of new weapons and vehicles. Jio launched its most affordable postpaid plan this week, offering more data than incumbents’ plans costing nearly twice as much. Available to subscribers from Tuesday, May 15, the Rs. 199 Jio postpaid plan will come with 25GB of data, free voice calls, unlimited text messages, and pre-activated ISD calls (starting at 50p per minute). The company is also touting one-touch activation for international roaming with the plan. And like with other plans by the operator, this one comes with complimentary access to Jio apps. This Jio plan directly takes aim at postpaid plans that cost about Rs. 400. Asura from Hyderabad-based Ogre Head Studio is the first Nintendo Switch game made in India. The game fuses Hindu mythology with Diablo-like combat and was an entertaining effort when it hit the PC a year ago. Now it seems the game along with its Asura Vengeance expansion is coming to the Switch. The announcement was made by the game’s Japanese publisher Dangen Entertainment on its website. There is no mention of any Switch-specific features and Ogre Head hasn’t announced a Switch version on its social media or site just yet. No price or release date for Asura on Nintendo Switch has been revealed by Dangen either. Soon you can play PC games on your smartphone or tablet via the Steam Link app for iOS and Android. Valve announced Steam Link for mobile devices along with Steam Video, an app that lets you watch movies and shows available on Steam on your Android or iOS device. The Steam Link app release date is slated to be “next week” while Steam Video is out “later this Summer”. According to Valve, Steam Link app allows you to play your Steam Library on Android or iOS devices including smartphones, tablets, Android TV, and even Apple TV. No requirements have been made public just yet aside from the need to be connected via 5GHz network or wired Ethernet to a host system (Mac or PC). Google Assistant is now available on 500 million devices globally, Scott Huffman, Vice President of Google Assistant revealed at the Google I/O 2018 keynote.
